A war that once enveloped the world has ended, leaving nothing behind.
This is the "Age of Winter," a time of impoverishment and ruin. Former
scientific discoveries have been lost, and the world's technology has
plummeted back to the levels of the 1960's. On an isolated island in the
north, a "paradise" has been created for children who have lost their
place in the world. Maki lives out his days here at a boarding school in
this "paradise" together with his best friend Eshika.
Students of this school are not allowed into the outside world before
graduation, and outsiders are not permitted entrance. These somewhat
boring days were extremely peaceful and beloved. But one day, unknown
men appear on the island, pointing guns at Maki and the others with no
hesitation......
Onoe, a reporter for a weekly magazine, is forced to team up with Kaburagi, a photographer. Onoe secretly considers Kaburagi his rival and Kaburagi's haphazard way of doing things goes against Onoe's strong sense of ethics so there's nothing but conflict between them. JJ is the most dangerous hitman in a city befitting of his profession, excelling at his job to such a degree that his nickname is ‘Death Scythe.’ He's given a job with a lot riding on it by one of the city’s factions, but, when it’s time for him to go in for the kill, his target isn’t in the room he was assigned to. Instead, a couple, who’ve nothing at all to do with the job, lie dead on the floor. As if things weren't getting suspicious enough, the son of the couple bursts into the room and, assuming that JJ is the murderer, wants revenge and vows to kill him no matter how long it takes. Five years later they’re living together and keeping a low profile to avoid rousing suspicion over what happened in the past. JJ still takes assassination jobs and shady deals are still being made.
